Fees on the same sale

On a $20.00 sale the Payhip headline fee ($1.00) is lower than every Forge plan, including Business ($1.70).

On a $100.00 sale: Payhip headline $5.00; Forge Free $13.30, Pro $9.30, Business $7.30.

Payhip fees on top of the plan rate: payment processor fees are charged on every plan, so the real cost of a Payhip sale is higher than the plan rate shown. Forge Payments includes card processing in its fee, so the Forge rates are comparable only after you add the processor fees to Payhip's.

Forge Pro is not cheaper per sale than Payhip's headline rate, so a paid Forge plan would not pay for itself through fees alone.

Tax

Payhip states that it collects, reports and remits digital EU and UK VAT and US and Canadian sales tax on sellers' behalf.

Forge Payments is not the seller of record and does not file or remit sales tax or VAT for you, so you stay responsible for the tax on your sales.

Choose Payhip if

  • You sell digital downloads, courses or memberships and want a hosted store with tax handling for EU, UK, US and Canadian sales.
  • Your volume is high enough that a flat monthly plan with a 0% transaction fee beats a percentage.

Choose Forge64 if

  • You are building a custom app, not just a store, and want payments inside it.
  • You prefer one all-in fee per sale over a plan fee plus separate processor fees.
  • You want database, sign-in and hosting included in the same plan.

FAQ

Is Forge Payments cheaper than Payhip?
It depends on the sale and the plan. On a $20.00 sale the Payhip headline fee ($1.00) is lower than every Forge plan, including Business ($1.70). Forge Payments is one all-in fee that includes card processing, and it does not include tax handling; Payhip describes its own tax handling above. Compare the total cost for your own mix of sales.
Does Forge Payments handle tax like Payhip?
Forge Payments is not the seller of record and does not file or remit sales tax or VAT for you, so you stay responsible for the tax on your sales.
Can I use Payhip and Forge64 together?
Forge64 builds the app and Forge Payments is how that app gets paid. Whether to keep a store on Payhip alongside it is your call; they are separate products with separate fees.
